met up with the homies at texas 8ball for ix's 3rd of 3 birthday celebrations. ((i didn't know i wasn't the only person that did that. whatever. i'm for it.))

apparently it was crap-rap night. the neighborhood all-stars are comprised of two white guys and black guy.

homeboy is distractionlor5000 so i will continue this in the morning.

that is all.

also, coffee story with not vx.

v. good. just wasn't feeling it.

old navy makes it okay though. birthday discounts. i'm over it. also, tell me how cute my shorts are. that is all.

this guy almost got me killed. jerk. go protest in not heavy traffic.

texas misses you...

how to be awesome ((make banana bread))

special note: this is a double-loaf recipe. there is no point in making just one loaf of banana bread, because the guy you're sleeping with will eat some before he leaves your house in the morning and by the time you get off work, your roommates will have eaten the rest. let's stick with two.

one of the most important parts of banana bread is it's bananas. usually, if there is an ingredient listed in the name of the food you're making... it's important. ((TATERTOT hotdish... requires tatertots...))

let's go with 7 ripe bananas. if i give you recipe with an odd numbered ingredient ((not half-able)) then you won't go making single-loaf on me. also, they have to be overly ripened. you can tell if a banana is overly ripened because the brown to yellow ratio is in the brown's favor. no. cheating. allowed.

((i assure you, the bottom half of my bananas have a higher yellow:brown ratio than the top half. you are allowed to take the average.))

peel your bananas. you should be about half-way through your first beer by now.

add a cup of melted butter. if you pre-gamed your baking, i will simplify by assuring you that two sticks of butter is one cup. you don't have to check google. learn from my mistakes.

also, some people like to use substitutions in their baking. like applesauce instead of oil or butter or margarine. get over yourself and just read the recipe. if you're fat then maybe you should be eating celery sticks and walking your dog rather than eating banana bread. i should start an advice column.

mash your bananas with a wooden spoon. if you check your wooden spoon drawer and none of your roommates have washed the dishes and you are out of wooden spoons and spatulas and rubber spatulas and wire wisks ((bad idea for everything but eggs)) then you can use a blender. mixers are overrated.

if the blender lid is also dirty, plates will do.

pour your banana puree back into your mixing bowl. you can't use the blender for everything, lazies!

the next step is... ((oh, yeah)) eggs! let me lecture you on the importance of not using rotten eggs... don't. also, clean out your fridge if you have rotten eggs... they're probably not alone.

add two eggs. the addition of eggs to any recipe is the only acceptable time to use a wire wisk... except for that time i made green beans... whatever. we will go over that next time.

pour some sugar in. i don't remember how much. let's go with one and a half cups... if you use the metric system, this equals 3 liters. ((also, fuck you))

this is also a great time to stand back and admire your mess. if you haven't made a mess, throw it away and start over. you're doing something wrong.

another ingredient ((almost as important as bananas)) is baking powder... i think... it's the one in the yellow box that arm and hammer makes... maybe it's baking soda... whatever, i'm over it. sprinkle some of that on there... let's go with 2 teaspoons. ((again, if you use the metric system, this is also 3 liters. we're just silly like that... also, fuck you))

this is also a good point to look at yourself and ask if you're really in the group that should be eating banana bread or eating celery sticks... maybe i should have some celery sticks... and get a haircut...

also, wear a scarf. that helps.

3 cups of flour... yep.

some people like to add miscellaneous flavor-somes to their banana breads, as if bread flavored like bananas isn't good enough. whatever. he's cute.

add nuts or chocolate chips or cranberries or pieces of a calendar. ((dates... amelia bedelia reference... whatever))

not raisins! raisins aren't allowed. if you want to add raisins, you should go eat some celery sticks instead... then kill yourself.

bake it at 350 degrees for an hour. for higher altitudes or people using the metric system, bake it at 3 liters for a week... ((wait... they used the gregorian calendar before we existed?? whatever))
it's not so much that i drank too much last night as much as i just drank too much all day.

i started my day with lunch at chopstix with sx. i showed up early and had some shiner so i could keep drinking while she was there and only look like an alcoholic in front of the waiter. i'm not above that.

couple beers to hold me out the rest of the day.

sobered up at jupiter and talked to a good friend for about 4 hours.

went home to ((drink)) make banana bread... and i learned that i should never cook sober again. here is an incomplete list why:

i'm more inventive.
i become ((fearfull)) cautious around ovens
i photograph!

i don't have the patience for lists today. i already started the laundry, cleaned, and vaccuumed, what more do you want from me?

don't worry, i will also provide some step-by-step instructions on how to make my amazingly simple banana bread of awesomeness. later.

i rewatched sweeny todd. my new favorite tragedy. still love it, and not because i'm swooning over johnny depp... whatever.

caught up with homeboy ((to drop off my banana bread donation and for intense cuddling)) and watched jet li's unleashed. suprisingly good. fewer fight scenes than i had ((hoped)) thought, but there was actually a decent storyline... and morgan freeman is a blind piano tuner with the personality of every morgan freeman role he has ever played... but i still love it.

i also watched the first third of sawIII. ew!!! just like sawII, i closed my eyes during a gross scary part and fell asleep. i deserved it.

UPDATE: also, while i was sitting at jupiter house for forever, jx and Max ((not to be confused with mAx or max)) walked in. i was on my laptop and had headphones in. i looked up and smiled and waved. Max gave me stinkeye and jx just looked at me awkwardly and gave a half-wave. less than a half wave. let's go with a fifth. he waved at 20 per cent capacity. unacceptable.

they got some coffee or whatever and i figured they would say hi or jx would give me a hug or something since every time we talk he goes on and on about how he's "still crazy about me" and whatnot, but when i looked back up, they were walking out.

who the hell do you think you are?!? i know you know that i'm kind of a big deal, and just because your bff hates me doesn't mean you should be putting on a fucking show just because she's with you. we're not together and despite your continued fantasies, won't be getting back together so why are you continuing to lie about it?

whatever.

There was a big number over the door of the building. The number was five. Before the Americans could go inside, their only English-speaking guard told them to memorize their simple address, incase they got lost in the big city. Their address was this: "Schlochtof-funf." Schlochtof meant slaughterhouse. Funf was good old five.

((love it!))
also, i enjoy having several different versions of the same song so i can listen to them all on repeat...

tonight:

the lonesome death of hattie carroll by mason jennings
the lonesome death of hattie carroll by rx bandits
the lonesome death of hattie carroll by bob dylan

((it's on repeat))
being alone helps your crazies

being with you helps mine.

((sorry, i'm a girl))
best friend met up with me at hooligans to play dominos and i definetely kicked his ass. i don't give a fuck what anyone says, dominos is one of the coolest games ever and goes down in the historical incomplete list of great games along with:

cribbage
monopoly
rummy/500/gin
nertz ((oh god))
baseball

that is all.

also, i'm ready for dominos tournament!
i'm sitting at jupiter house in my summer clothes and winter scarf. it's one of my favorite combinations.

my afternoon has been nothing short of pleasant. i am officially unwanted by the city of denton, denton county, and the state of texas. a relief.

best friend and mAx are teaching me how to play dominos tonight so i can join their dominos tournament. i'm beyond excited. anyone else want in?

so far a total of seven strangers have sat next to me and didn't want to talk. still pleasant. however, there is this other guy with scraggely hair that comes in a lot and wears faded black levis and non-hooded sweatshirts ((which are just awkward)) and sits by me or stands near me or just plain hovers around waiting for me to talk to him and one time i made the mistake of making eye contact and smiling and he talked at me for fifteen minutes about his failed marriage and how they have a landscaping business together even though they're divorced.

don't. care.

anyway, he is sitting near me now and i know he's waiting for me to look up from my book or laptop so that he can get some words in.

this wouldn't be a problem if i didn't have to pee so bad. i can't take my laptop with me, so i'll have to take my headphones off eventually... how problematic.

also, it's the top of the ninth and the twins are down by two against detroit, which is particularly frustrating because we had been up the whole game until they scored three runs at the bottom of the eighth. le sigh... RALLEY CAPS!

oh good, old cowboy man with the cane and fun hats showed up. he provides a save of the highest caliber... he just pulls the crazy old man card and pulls up a seat and starts talking about random old cowboy things. i'm not sure if he intends to save me from awkward situations or if it actually excites him and he thinks that i'm just having a "social-day". either way, it's appreciated.

top of the ninth, 5-6... BLAAAGH INTENSITY!!!

good, the weird guy in the faded black levis is reading a paper now rather than staring at my feet.

i think from now on i should just live-blog everything that i'm doing during twins games. that should be my blog. no stories unless it happened during the twins game. and i can only write it during the games... i'll work on that for next season. or maybe another book. ha! that would imply that i'm going to finish this book. oh, dread.

FUCK YOU, DETROIT!

Sunday, April 13, 2008

hey, mengtar, what are you doing on saturday?

teaching drum corps! ((it's whatever))

apparently to customers, this joke isn't funny...

customer said:

do you make your italian sausage here?

mengtar said:

no, sir, we don't catch the salmon here either.

he asked to speak with my manager... who laughed.

please don't speak to me when i'm trying to pee. after a few drinks, it takes intense focus and muscle coordination to pee and take your picture...

coming out of jupiter house yesterday for my pre-work coffee, i was greeted by little daddy who was cooking up some barbecued everything outside hooligans. he excitedly informed me that he had just received a shipment of FRESH NORTHERN WALLEYE!! ((definitely something to inform one about excitedly.))

something i learned pre-fresh-northern-walleye: nobody in texas knows what walleye is or gives a shit.

i worked. i came home and changed and ate the shit out of that walleye.

something i learned post-fresh-northern-walleye: fuck texans and their negative fish attitudes, because it was incredible.

i just wish i would have starved myself for a month prior because the filets were MASSIVE and i had to give the rest to homeboy whose reaction was, "it's fish". dick.

in more recent headlines, i took snowflake and wellington also to the vet for a check-up. i didn't learn until afterwards that most people don't actually take pet frogs to the vet... not for check-ups anyway...

the vet took a look at wellington also and his eyes got really wide.

"you're frog's overweight!"

wellington also is currently on a low-cricket diet. i feel neglectful. like i should be a guest on maury or montel williams ((because he's prettier)) as a mother with a 250lb. 8-year-old. that's my favorite episode.

otherwise my frogs are completely healthy. other than being neglectful, i am a great pet-owner!

watch your step, kids! don't do what i did which is step down onto the non-existant curb and slide underneath your own car and sit there for five minutes confused as all hell as to why you're sitting underneath your car. how much did i drink?!!?

also, i am amazing at navigating wal-mart, even when my eyes look like this...

sorry, sx, but also, i am partialy evil.

but it has also been two years since my last photo contest...

defending champion... Sx WITH FISH!!!

competing with...

to be determined...

TWO YEARS AGO TODAY...

We went to the Twins game on Wednesday. They won. YAY! It was Student Night AND dollar dome dog night. Ax and I bought the last 4 dollar dome dogs. Sx was mad. I was not.

mengtar said:

still waiting for retaliation

eric novotny said:

i'll keep you waiting

mengtar said:

or you just won't do anything

eric novotny said:

don't think it's not going to happen though. because it will

mengtar said:

I'm convinced it's not going to happen

eric novotny said:

stay convinced

mengtar said:

maybe I won't. just to disappoint you.

eric novotny said:

oooh

mengtar said:

and then I'll be ultra-prepared when you do something lame

eric novotny said:

i hate disappointment

mengtar said:

prepare to be disappointed

eric novotny said:

i'll be sure to make a disapointment kit

mengtar said:

containing venomous snakes, a gun, two razors, pills and body bag

eric novotny said:

TWO razors? one won't suffice?

mengtar said:

I don't want you to back out

eric novotny said:

people who get so depressed they slit their wrists only to not be able to do that must have it pretty bad. they're so worthless in life they can't even end it

mengtar said:

and they bang fat chics

eric novotny said:

is that supposed to be a reference to me?

mengtar said:

yes.

"HAY-YA! What happened to your conversation? I read it this morning and was working up a good insult, I came back and it was gone! It was quality laughing material at youre "Akward5000" HaHa"
-anonymous

wow, you kids are fast. posting that was the last thing i did before going to bed, and taking it down was the second thing i did this morning.

i figured that after the events of this morning, that it would be something best talked about it first, and posted later. don't worry, you can put up your insults later.

also, i ate an orange and a full head of lettuce. now i feel like death. it looks like this...

((but it was soo good))

Thursday, April 10, 2008

as my day off, i had many things planned for the day. things including cleaning and being physically active and laundrying and world peace.

none of these usually happen. but i usually plan for that too.

i did clean out my car. i even left the windows down to get rid of the smokey smell.

sometimes i take pictures of my reflection just to make sure that i still exist. i find that it is an accurate measurement of non-death.

i also drank in the daytime. always worth it.

the highlight of any day off is catching oprah and dr. phil. one of the first things i learned when i moved to texas is that dr. phil went to UNT and nobody in texas likes him. after today's episode, i really didn't either. whatever.

oprah, however, was quality as usual. her guest was this guy that writes for the new york times who had a drug addict son. he wrote an article for the new york times magazine ((apparently they also have a magazine)) about his experiences. he went on to say how many people wrote to him thanking him for giving them ((the families of drug addicts)) a voice. he then went on to write the book, "beautiful boy". after his son's recovery, the son went on to write the book "tweak."

i want both books. i have a birthday coming up. you should look into that.

also, i cried about eight times while watching oprah. i miss kyle and jon and michael and gavin. also, good luck to my homies cx and rx in rehab.

after being overly bored, i came up to jupiter house to get more progress done on the books i'm reading and writing. i got a pleasant interruption to grab some beers at the abbey. oh yeah, and food. sundog es muy bueno. longboard is okay. also, sundog is the joe cool of beer.

smartass, i am currently listening to the new meshuggah. i second your thoughts. however, i found some of the tracks overly percussively redundant. but it's whatever.

before my final of three-ish trips to jupiter house today ((one of which, i danced with the barista that is also jxlx's girlfriend... love that guy)) i saw this couple fighting. i'm overly entertained by the awkwardness of lovers' spats. i stuck around to watch and photograph the event. in the pictures, it doesn't look like they're fighting, but i assure you, he wants his keys back and she keeps putting his hands on her tits. entertaining5000.

also, pretentiouscentral5000.

i wore what has been deemed my aquarium outfit ((half replacing my poetry slam outfit on the hipster/pretentious level)) out since the last time i showed you pictures. homeboy has some better at-venue shots that he still refuses to share. but until then, entertain yourself with this wonderfulness...

also, one of these salads is probably better than the other one... whatever.

and this old man was videotaping his walk around the square. i looked up from my vonnegut just in time to catch a tourist. how wonderful.

also, the reason i don't go up to maplewood to see between the buried and me for free is because i hate smartass. that is all.

there is a cricket with an uneven number of legs running in circles outside jupiter house. i'm pretty sure that's all he can do.

when i worked at the black-eyed pea, we had to sell dollar shamrocks for the muscular dystophy association. however, i get very discouraged after being turned down by the... first and only table i offered a shamrock to... so i didn't. sorry, jerry!

special news break: tune in monday to see px drum with ray j on jay leno.

fuck. yes.

yesterday i drove forever away through farmland and cattle ranches to sherman, tx for og ct training.

waste. of. time.

i saw eight dead cats and a coyote. also, mckinney smells like rotten potatoes.

but they're going to pay me well and i got $.49/mile reimbursement ((which ended up being seventyish dollars. i can roll with that.

but i had to sit in a room with strangers ((eww)) that were overly excited about everything og. i was tired and less than thrilled.

speaking of tired, i think it's about time for a nap. yep.

pictures later because my camera is downstairs and my bed is here.

go px!

american league central division:

1st place: KC Royals 4-2.
5th place: Det Tigers 0-5.

wtf mate?
cute story: i was at the boiler room on friday night and a curly-haired stranger approaches me with a, "what drum corps did you march with, again?" ((as if i had JUST told him and he had JUST forgotten... but i don't recall telling him in the first place or having ANY conversation with him prior to this question))

mengtar said:

blue stars

curly-haired stranger said:

oh, awesome. ((turns to friend)) hey, this girl marched blue stars.

phantom regiment tenor nxwx said:

oh hey, i'm nxwx.

((also, he's cute and a fucking stellar drummer))

turns out he helped out our 05 quadline after a couple shows. bx in tasmania would be sooo jealous. i miss that kid... and his parents.

i haven't showered in a couple days, but the faux-hawk style hides the greasy hair... just don't touch it... ew.

tuesday i get to expand my horizons and venture out to sherman, tx for my og certified trainer training. good times. now i just have to remember which uniform to wear and to bring my "train the trainer trainee guide" choo choo!

it's whatever.

i like to pretend that everyone's facebook and myspace statuses are solely about me.

in other news, all my thoughts and hopes go out to axvx ((blue stars 04-05 snareline)) who just lost his mother. i hope you can still make it down to denton for my ballpark birthday, but i would understand otherwise. i love you, man. ((but get me something to drink... and i don't want any of that colored shit... oh the days...))

hx's mom is vaccuuming my downstairs. that just sounds awkward.

i am down to one of my last three packs of smokes before quitting. now that it's warm out, i'm getting more amped to quit smoking so i can run out in the beautiful weather. i'm not sure it'll last too long because i'm sure it's going to get disgustingly hot out soon. but then i can just go to university courtyards and steal their gym... they raped me enough when i lived there, i will take it upon myself to decide that i deserve it. one pack to go, and i will enjoy every last one.

sorry, kids, no bumming from this bballa.

as it turns out, bballa mike is a friend of my last-cup-enthusiast co-worker, mAx. also, my non-sister hx up in mn, knew that my tx roommate ((kx)) farted during jxnx's marriage proposal at a madison scouts camp before i told her. also, best friend knows the curly-haired stranger that claims that we met on christmas eve with the friend that i met in anytown, usa three years ago. small world 5000.

smartass said:

i hate you

mengtar said:

i'm over it

smartass said:

cock tease. I was hoping to find out who's underwear you have on

mengtar said:

haha. it's actually mine. but my friend reminded me of a joke from when we were in drum corps together when we found a package of boxer briefs in our area of the equipment truck... so we claimed them as ours and wore them.

smartass said:

hotness

mengtar said:

and then during rehearsal the director got on the microphone to talk to all of us down on the field and he was like "mengtar, are you in your underwear?" and i said "no, i'm in someone else's underwear!" it was pretty great.

smartass said:

haha. i love it

mengtar said:

so what's new with you?

smartass said:

well it was 30 and snowed 4-6 inches on monday and today it's nearly 60 and raining. MN rules

mengtar said:

yay! so i go to this coffee shop a lot.

smartass said:

and I think my roommate and his gf are trying to get me in a double date tonight. jupiter house?

mengtar said:

yes?

smartass said:

i read your blogs a lot.

mengtar said:

haha. nice but it's about 4-6 miles from my house, and i went there last night. when i got there, the sky was clear. i was inside for about 10 minutes, and i went outside and it was starting to rain. i started driving and it was POURING and HAILING! and i almost had to pull over because i couldn't see anything past the front of my car.

smartass said:

if you say frogs next I'm leaving

mengtar said:

and there was soo much water on the road that i it was pulling my car all around the road. by the time i got home, it had stopped raining.

smartass said:

awesomeness. not as cool as MN. but it'll do.

mengtar said:

i thought i dreamt it all, but homeboy was following me home. it was nuts. haha. whatever.

smartass said:

i realy want to goto the casino tonight. come with me and gamble

mengtar said: i have to work tonight. i have twenty minutes. maybe i should get coffee first. getting coffee is a gamble. because sometimes red makes it. and her mochas aren't very good.

smartass said:

haha

mengtar said:

or sometimes strangers talk to you. but i might get lucky because the cool bearded guy might be working. but i forgot he shaved his beard. i can hardly recognize him now. he makes some good drinks.

smartass said:

your life is exciting

mengtar said:

it is. like, i just won my third game of spider soliataire, and i've been playing since i got my laptop. and i won all three games TODAY!

smartass said:

waoh

mengtar said:

today must be my lucky day, i bet the cool bearded guy is working.

smartass said:

you better pace yourself. too much in one day......

mengtar said:

but when i play, i get a little ocd about the order i get the things... like, when they line up at the bottom when you get a full a-k it has to be rbrbrbrb or rrbbrrbb otherwise i consider it a loss and restart

smartass said:

i love the mohawk btw.

mengtar said:

haha thanks. i'm not vibing with it much today, but i'll get over it. there will be much drinking tonight because congratulations is playing. and they're a cool band.

smartass said:

good luck with the dancing

mengtar said:

thanks. i'm not good. at all. it kind of sucks.

smartass said:

so you've told us

mengtar said:

but best friend dances like me so we have fun. and then homeboy shows up about an hour before barclose and ruins my night with his laughing and photography and good dancing. fucker.

smartass said:

"i've killed for less" makes me smile on the inside

mengtar said:

haha me too. okay, i really have to get ready for work if i'm going to be serious about getting this coffee.
i'm starting to get really bored with everything.

i think it's about time to restart my overdrinking or bump it up to three packs a day and become the crazy chain smoking drunk or get a new hobby or addiction or eating disorder. i think i could make eating disorders trendy again... but what would i wear?

congratulations is playing tonight at the boiler room. come watch me dance with my best friend. no smirks, giggles, or flash photography, please.

i finally bought more beer the other day when i ran to the store for tampons ((one of the only times i will actually buy beer)). they are both a good aid to exploding vaginas. and it also lets me drink in the daytime so i don't have to venture into public alone while all you other fuckers carry on with your schedules and classes and jobs. get over yourself.

the u of mn has yet to mail my transcript. i'm starting to think there's a good chance i won't be getting into UNT this fall. i've killed for less.

my faux-hawk doesn't look nice today and i am not happy about it.

someone finally fixed the bathroom scale and i'm just going to keep telling myself that it's broken and might go as far as to buy a whole new one. i was obviously not happy with the results. solution: eat less, drink more.

in other exciting news, i have just purchased my last three packs of cigarettes. then i'm done.

done.

why three? fuck you.

done.
